Fangirl Minute: Show What You Know, Super Bowl Edition

0

Hey Fangirls, it’s Tracy Sandler and welcome to the Fangirl Minute! It’s almost that time of year again when even the most casual of football fans will be gearing up for their Super Bowl parties. Besides the wings, dips and drinks there will be plenty of football talk filling the air. So, Fangirls, to make the most of your super bowl experience, here are a few key phrases that will help you show what you know.

1. Calling an Audible – Maybe you remember Peyton Manning yelling “Omaha” before snapping the ball or other quarterbacks yelling other absurd words: “taco”, “Elvis” or “Dora.” Well some of those have some meaning and could represent an audible, which is when the quarterback changes the play before snap. But here’s the thing ladies, you don’t even need to use this one while watching the game. Simply head to the bar and let them know you are changing up your drink choice by calling an audible from beer to wine.

2. Play-Action – Yes, Fangirls this probably sounds like fun and definitely is for Tom Brady and his receivers…but it’s probably not what you were thinking. Play-action is when the quarterback fakes a handoff to the running back to trick the defense so their receivers will be open. If you see your team struggling on offense you can never go wrong suggesting they run some more play-action.

3. The Red Zone – Ok ladies, this is kind of like the football version of the “red-light district,” because it is where football players go to score…a touchdown! This is the part of the field from the 20-yard line to the end zone and teams have specific plays they practice just for the red-zone. It is hard enough to score a touchdown in the NFL so you better be ready when you get close.

Ok Fangirls, you are now ready to show what you know. Later skaters and happy Super Bowl!
