5 Fun Facts about 49ers’ Trent Taylor

Louisiana Tech wide receiver Trent Taylor was Kyle Shanahan’s draft crush. That probably feels pretty cool.

“Oh, that’s a great feeling,” said Taylor. “Great feeling for sure. Just to know the type of interest that he has in me, and the belief he has in me, as a player, that’s always good to know. Just kind of brings some extra confidence to myself, going into the system and being out there on the field. I mean it’s great to know and I’m ready to get it started.”

The 5’8” 178-pound receiver was taken by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round. He finished the 2016 season with 1,803 yards and 26 touchdowns. The slot receiver will stay there for the time being, but he will have the opportunity to move around.

“…Coach said…as you learn the offense more, as I learn more positions, I can switch to either the X or the Z or anything like that,” said Taylor. “So it just really kind of depends on the knowledge that you have of the offense, if you can switch from position to position.”

Taylor may be small, but that hasn’t stopped his fiery nature on the field. His stature has caused naysayers his whole life, but that just pushes him harder.

“Just people telling me my whole life that I’m not supposed to be here,” said Taylor. “So anytime I get the ball, I want to prove them wrong, prove that I can compete with the best of them. And I’m not scared to lay me head in there and hit anybody who comes my way.”

On his first day of rookie minicamp, it was easy to see why Shanahan became so enamored with the receiver’s explosiveness on the field.

I had the chance to talk to Taylor and learn more about him with 5 Fun Facts. Watch the above video to learn:
