Tips and Tricks: Homemade Avocado Hummus Recipe | 49ers Fangirl

Game day can be just as much about food as it is about football. Food and football. I love alliteration.

Anyway, with all those tailgate party snacks and meals, sometimes a Fangirl wants something a little healthier. With that in mind, I’m sharing a delicious avocado hummus recipe, because really, is there anything better than avocado and hummus? I got the idea for this one at eatingwell.com, but I made a couple small changes.

Ingredients
  • 1 can chickpeas
  • 1 ripe avocado, halved and pitted
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Homemade Avocado Hummus Recipe
Instructions
  1. Make sure to drain your chickpeas leaving a little bit of the liquid. Then put into a food processor or blender (I use a Vitamix) and add in the avocado, tahini, lemon juice, salt, olive oil, cumin and garlic. Blend it all together until it’s nice and smooth. I serve mine with whole wheat pita bread and red and yellow bell pepper slices, because, as I’ve said before, obviously.
