Last weekend, the San Francisco 49ers hosted their 18th Annual Winter Fest presented by Chevron at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley.
Benefitting the 49ers Foundation, Winter Fest attendees were treated to a number of fun activities, including skiing with Olympic athletes, auctions, and time with 49ers’ coaches and players.
“I believe people come to this event because they get to touch the 49ers in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, which is totally unlike in a game,” said 49ers’ Co-Chairman John York. “That’s what brings them here, but then when they get here, they obviously enjoy the mission of harnessing football to educate and empower youth. But mostly it’s because this becomes a family event. There aren’t very many charity events with a good purpose, where they can touch a football team, and also that they can bring their family and have their kids with them.”
At the weekend festivities, Dr. Robert J. Leri, who is the Superintendent Chief Learning Officer of the Truckee Unified School District, was awarded $5000 from the 49ers for the Truckee Unified School District Summer STEAM program.
Among others, the following players, coaches, and members of the 49ers’ organization were in attendance: General Manager John Lynch, Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, Defensive Coordinator Robert Saleh, Special Teams Coordinator Richard Hightower, QB Jimmy Garoppolo, T Joe Staley, WR Pierre Garçon, LB Dekoda Watson, RB Raheem Mostert, K Robbie Gould, and P Bradley Pinion.
- In other STEAM education news, the 49ers announced this week that their EDU Academy will partner with The Chelsea Foundation “to deliver unique educational programming to young people in the Bay Area and London, beginning in April with a two-day clinic for youth at Chelsea’s iconic Stamford Bridge. Leveraging programming components from 49ers EDU, which teaches youth about the concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) and how it relates to football, the ground-breaking STEAM education alliance will continue both organizations’ ongoing commitment to enhancing educational opportunity for youth.” (Per 49ers PR)
